"***DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOSTEL***
***THIS PLACED DOES NOT DESERVE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY***
We booked the Asylum hostel as we were told it was one of the last places available to stay over the Christmas period. When we landed in Sydney we checked out other places to stay in that area and found many places were much cheaper even over the whole Christmas period. One example of an excellent place to stay is the Springfield Lodge, which has very good rates, is very clean and the staff are well informed and friendly. This is not far from the asylum.
Anyway, we decided then to call to the asylum and explained that we would not be staying and they could keep our deposit of ¬450euro which was paid by card before leaving for Australia. We asked the man at reception if we were going to be charged the full price and were told no. But the asylum then proceeded to take the money from us totalling $1100 each for 5 people for 11 nights. Had we known this, we definitely would have stayed, but as we lost our deposits which was a reasonable profit for any business for no cost inflicted we decided not to stay. After realising we had been charged the money we asked to speak with the manager of the hostel who said it is not company policy to give refunds, yet this policy was not stated to us when we arrived there. Also they said they sent us all the information which didnt arrive until nearly 4 weeks after the hostel was booked and so by that time we already had left the country and were unaware of the cancellation date which was not provided on the original receipt we received after booking. All we were given was dates, price, deposit paid and directions.
This company has not tried to work with us on any level even with so many inadequacies on their part, and this i feel must be reported. For those wishing to stay in Sydney, please at all costs STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOSTEL, - try Springfield Lodge, you wont be disappointed just up and round the corner from it."

OMG! so many stairs we stayed here when we first got to Sydney we were tired from the flight and had to walk up so many flights of stairs it just was not cool. I must say though the hostel was really great the kitchen was clean and the rooms were pretty good as well. Apart from the stairs it was really great
